Machu Picchu Sanctuary

We stayed in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge close to the entrance to the sanctuary. When everyone else had to go back down the mountain to their hotels and campsites we went back into the sanctuary and I was able to photograph with very few other people around.

The hidden Inca city of Machu Picchu

In its full glory, the hidden Inca city of Machu Picchu. The city plaza is the large rectangle of grass in the middle ground with the llamas lazing about. Behind it the towering Waynapicchu and the everpresent cloudbanks.

Only 400 people per day

This view of Machu Picchu shows Huaina Picchu in the back. Only 400 people per day are allowed to hike up. The first 200 go in at 7am (or so), and the rest after 10am. The catch is that the second batch of people are allowed in as people come out. That means you show up at 10am and there is a long line of people waiting, and you have no idea how long the wait will be. There are other interesting hikes.
